 Dogs can be very social creatures—most love their interactions with humans. Puppy training provides a great opportunity to deepen that bond, as well as the tools your dog needs to lead a happy and satisfying life. Puppy behavior training can help reduce stress levels by teaching you both how to communicate with each other and build a trusting relationship.

The best puppy training also helps them build confidence in themselves. Positive reinforcement is a great motivator—as they learn their training cues and display desired behaviors, you’ll be happy to reward them and shower them with praise.

Puppy training can also be a lot of fun for both you and your pup. Training can be as much a game as an exercise for your dog—keeping them entertained as they figure out what behaviors earn them puppy training treats.

Training with your puppy also lets them know they can trust you. As they learn their cues, they’ll also begin to learn what behaviors bring reward. They’ll also learn how to depend on you to feed them, care for them and give them love and affection.

8 weeks old

You can start teaching your puppy simple cues almost immediately. We offer courses for puppies as young as 8 weeks—usually around the time they’re ready to be adopted. Starting them out early is a great way to ensure they won’t fall into bad habits and help begin your relationship on the right foot.

Benefits of puppy training

If a puppy isn’t trained, there isn’t clear communication between them and their pet parent. They may get confused and not understand what’s expected of them. When they give in to their natural puppy instincts and exhibit behavior like chewing, biting and going to the bathroom in the house, they won’t understand that these behaviors are not appropriate to humans—they just see their pet parent frustrated and upset. Knowing what’s expected from both of you can create a solid foundation for your relationship and make communication easier later down the road.

Dogs also love to adventure and explore the outside world. Proper puppy training allows you to take them with you to more places with higher confidence that they will behave appropriately. If your pet isn’t trained, bringing them along with you can cause nothing but stress, frustration and can even become a safety concern. If they know their cues and how to be polite in society, this opens the doors for more interaction and new experiences. You can take them to dog-friendly parks, social gatherings and other fun outings.

Finally, proper training can help ensure your dog’s safety. If they do something to put themselves in danger—like run toward a busy road—it’s much quicker to stop them with a cue instead of chasing them down.

We offer various options to make training your pup easy. You can choose to attend training classes in a group setting, or you can opt for private lessons if you prefer to learn at a one-on-one level. We also offer online puppy training during dangerous weather conditions as both group and private classes where pet parents can participate virtually from the comfort and safety of their own living room.

This course is for dogs ages 8 to 16 weeks old. It is six weeks long and teaches basics such as potty training your puppy. It allows your pup to get used to socializing with others and introduces the concept of receiving treats as a reward for desired behaviors. It also teaches them the foundational cues like “sit,” “down,” “come” and much more.

This course is for dogs 16 weeks to 6 months old. It is six weeks long and teaches your puppy loose-leashing walking, tricks, games and advanced cues like “leave it” and “wait.” It also reinforces the fundamentals from Puppy Group Class.

This option has everything you need to get you and your puppy through the first 12 weeks of training. It offers both Puppy Group Class and Beginner Group Class and includes taking the American Kennel Club (AKC) S.T.A.R. Puppy Test that will help to track their training and development. 

 Just like humans, dogs should never stop learning. Continual training throughout their lifetime keeps your dog sharp and stimulated, and our training courses for adults prove you can teach an old dog new tricks.

Training can benefit any dog at any age. Our adult courses are great for:

• Dogs and pet parents who are looking build a solid training foundation
• Dogs who have graduated from our puppy classes
• Newly adopted adult and senior dogs
• Dogs who need a bit of a refresher or have fallen into undesirable habits

We offer Fundamentals Group Class and Advanced Group Class for pups more than 6 months old, as well as AKC Complete Package.

You get the same benefits as the puppy packages, except instead of an AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy test, they are administered the AKC Canine Good Citizen® test. This two-part course challenges your dog on their training skills as well as their social abilities. When your pet passes the CGC test, it can give you confidence when you start taking your dog out to social gatherings, homes with other dogs and your vet.

Bonding with your pet is one of the best parts of being a dog parent, but it’s important your pet also feels secure when you’re not around. Luckily, we offer separation anxiety training classes as well. It’s a nice feeling when your dog misses you, but you don’t want it to interfere with their mental wellbeing.
